EXCLUSIVE: Charlie Watts Quits The Rolling Stones

by Paul Cashmere - September 2 2009

Undercover has learned that Charlie Watts has quit The Rolling Stones.

A source within the Stones inner-circle says, “Charlie Watts has quit the band. He will never record or tour with the band again”.

The news does not come as a surprise. It was common knowledge that Keith Richards had to talk Charlie into contributing to the A Bigger Bang tour but this time it seems there is no calling Charlie back to active duty.

“The Stones are looking to Keith's Expensive Winos drummer Charlie Drayton to fill the void in all future Stones' callings,” our source says.

With Mick Jagger planning more Stones activity next year, the departure of Charlie will be a huge blow to the band. Charlie was the backbone of the band.

The 68-year old drummer simply doesn't want to do it anymore.

Charlie joined the Rolling Stones in January, 1963. He didn’t expect it would last. In fact, he kept his day job for several months until the band started to feel like a career.

Charlie’s decision to quit the band comes a three years short of the Stones 50th anniversary.

The Stones A Bigger Bang tour ran from August 2005 to August 2007. It was the highest tour of all-time.

Na IORRze piszą, że to jednak bzdura.

A fabricated news story on internet about Charlie Watts has made headlines in media across the world. The story is false, and it has been denied by the Rolling Stones. This is their official statement: "Contrary to a fabricated story that ran this morning on a small music web site in Australia, drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones."

Nieprawdziwe plotki o zmianach w The Rolling Stones
Charlie Watts nie opuścił szeregów The Rolling Stones.

Ostatnia płyta The Rolling Stones to "A Bigger Bang" z września 2005 roku.

A Keith pracuje w studio z Jackiem White.

Gitarzysta The Rolling Stones zaprosił do studia Jacka White'a.
- Bardzo podobała mi się praca z Jackiem - wyjawił Keith Richards. - Nagraliśmy razem kilka piosenek.

Zapytany, czy lider The White Stripes wyprodukuje nowy album The Rolling Stones, muzyk odpowiada enigmatycznie: - Jedyne, co mogę zrobić, by rozpowszechnić tę plotkę, to powiedzieć, że pozostajemy z Jackiem w kontakcie.

Jack White obecnie zajęty jest promocją płyty "Horehound", którą nagrał z formacją The Dead Weather.

How Does Keith Richards’ Book Deal Stack Up?

After weeks of speculation about which publisher would score Keith Richards’ forthcoming autobiography, the deal is officially closed. Little, Brown and Company will publish Richards’ life story in 2010, and the guitarist is already apparently working on the memoir with James Fox, a writer and close friend. The publishing house paid a whopping $7.3 million for the book. So, how does Richards’ paycheck compare to other major non-fiction book deals?

Keith Richards writing a ‘delicious’ memoir
‘There will be stories he has never uttered before,’ says the publisher

NEW YORK - Rolling Stone Keith Richards, cigarette no doubt in hand, is working on a memoir, the object of a multimillion dollar bidding war that will be published by Little, Brown and Company in 2010.

“It will be his life’s story,” Little, Brown publisher Michael Pietsch said Tuesday. “For nearly 50 years, he has been at the very center of the vortex of stardom and of entertainment as a cultural force. He’s a thread running through the whole thing.”

Richards, the master riffer, legendary partier and songwriting/sparring partner with Mick Jagger, received $7.3 million for the book, according to a publisher insider with knowledge of the negotiations. Currently untitled, the memoir will be written with James Fox, an old friend of Richards’ and author of “White Mischief.”

“Keith is working with someone who has been a friend and is an extremely skilled writer. I know that James has also been talking with people close to Keith,” says Pietsch, who declined to offer specific names or say whether Fox was talking with members of the Rolling Stones.

Richards’ life and work have fascinated millions, but his is hardly an untold story. Richards, 63, has been interviewed countless times, speaking candidly about his music, heroin addiction, love life and battles with Jagger. He is quoted extensively in “According to the Rolling Stones,” an authorized oral history published in 2003.

“All those interviews have been scattered over decades,” Pietsch says. “To have the story of his own life in one book, there’s no experience like that. And there will be stories he has never uttered before.”

Other Rolling Stones have written memoirs, including former bassist Bill Wyman and fellow guitarist Ron Wood, whose book is due this fall. Jagger has reportedly tried writing his autobiography, but given up, claiming he couldn’t remember anything of interest.

Pietsch said that he has read some samples from Richards’ book, and found them “delicious.”

“The range and type of stories was exactly what you would hope to hear,” Pietsch says. “The memories and the emotions, people wonder if he remembers anything, but I wish my memory was that good.”
